The Director of Product Management – Direct-to-Device (D2D) is responsible for owning the strategic vision, roadmap, and market success of Terrestar’s D2D product line. This role sits at the intersection of customer needs, market trends, and technical feasibility, translating business goals and user insights into clear product requirements and strategies.

This individual will not be responsible for technical development, but will work cross-functionally with engineering, commercial, regulatory, and partner teams to ensure the D2D offering delivers differentiated value to customers and aligns with Terrestar’s strategic objectives.

The main responsibilities are: 

Strategic Product Leadership

  • Define and evolve the D2D product vision and multi-year roadmap, rooted in market opportunities, user insights, and company goals.
  • Utilize customer discovery, competitive analysis, and market validation to inform product direction.
  • Apply quantitative marketing models (e.g., segmentation, forecasting, positioning maps, and choice models) to inform product strategy.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the global telecom and satellite communications landscape, identifying trends, unmet customer needs and strategic implications on the business plan.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Vehicle the voice of the customer internally and champion the business case for product and service offering features and improvements.
  • Translate customer and business requirements into clear product requirements for engineering and development teams.
  • Ensure effective alignment across engineering, commercial, operations, finance and regulatory stakeholders for timely and high-quality execution.
  • Promote a culture of data-driven decision making, using marketing dashboards and modeling tools to support prioritization and risk management.

Market Launch & Go-To-Market Strategy

  • Support the go-to-market planning, including launch timelines, commercial enablement, value proposition development, and channel readiness.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and strategy teams to define product positioning, pricing strategies, and performance metrics.
  • Leverage conjoint analysis and customer value modeling to optimize product bundles and pricing structures.

Lifecycle Management

  • Own the performance and evolution of the D2D product offering, tracking usage, churn, NPS, and profitability.
  • Prioritize enhancements based on data and stakeholder input, managing trade-offs between scope, cost, and timelines.
  • Implement customer lifetime value (CLV) and retention models to guide product decisions across the customer journey.

Governance & Oversight

  • Ensure that product direction is compliant with strategy, regulatory frameworks and spectrum licensing requirements.
  • Partner with legal, finance, and policy teams to evaluate contractual obligations, risk, and investment prioritization.
  • Evaluate market experiments and pilots using controlled test designs and analytics frameworks to reduce uncertainty and improve market entry strategies.

COMPETENCY PROFILE AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience/Certification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in product management within satellite communications, mobile networks, or related sectors.

Other qualifications

  • Proven track record of launching and managing complex, high-value B2B or B2B2C technology products at scale.
  • Strong understanding of the telco and satellite value chain, including MNOs, OEMs, roaming, SIM authentication, and spectrum-related considerations.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, regulatory affairs, and commercial operations.
  • Mastery of marketing models: pricing, competitive positioning etc,

  • Effective Communication – Clearly communicates product vision and rationale to stakeholders of all levels.
  • Analytical Thinking – Leverages data to drive prioritization and continuous improvement. Applies formal marketing models to evaluate market potential, sales forecast, price positioning, and product cannibalization, etc.
  • Collaboration – Works fluidly across silos and functions to build alignment and accountability.
  • Planning & Execution – Structures product plans and ensures clear ownership, timelines, and KPIs.
