Reporting to the Director, IT Operations and Infrastructure, the Senior IT Systems Administrator is responsible for deploying, maintaining, and supporting Terrestar’s IT infrastructure. This includes administering Linux, Windows Server, and cloud environments, managing system installations, and resolving technical issues.

The Senior IT Systems Administrator leads technology projects, ensures system security and compliance, and maintains accurate records of IT assets. Working closely with internal teams and vendors, the incumbent supports the evolution of Terrestar’s systems to meet operational and strategic goals.

 

The main responsibilities are: 

Technology Deployment and Support 

  • Administer Linux, Windows Server and cloud service environments.
  • Install and configure new servers and other IT equipment.
  • Maintain Terrestar’s operational and administrative systems and assist in the resolution and escalation of technical problems of end users.
  • Support proprietary hardware and software while ensuring connectivity and support of related local area networks.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, support and maintenance of Terrestar’s operational and administrative systems.
  • Test, document and support existing systems and assist in the implementation of new systems.

Technology Reporting and Control 

  • Deliver projects end to end, including effective communication with customers and IT vendors.
  • Lead and develop technology initiatives.
  • Maintains accurate records of all maintenance, inventory and security measures as it relates to IT equipment. 
  • Design, administer and maintain system administration functions (backups, disaster recovery, security, documentation and performance monitoring).

Core Technology Evolution Projects 

  • Work with counterparts/vendors to ensure already installed and new systems are in compliance with corporate standards and expectations.
  • Coordinate with departments during installation and system modifications or repairs.

 Assume all related responsibilities. 

 

COMPETENCY PROFILE AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience/Certification

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science is desirable.
  • 12 years minimum supporting networks, cloud (AWS and Azure) and server infrastructures.
  • Experience in maintaining systems documentation in evolving technology environments.
  • Proven track record of leading technology initiatives and supporting enterprise systems.
  • Experience working in a complex network and R&D engineering organization.
  • Experience designing and maintaining backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and security protocols.

Other qualifications

  • Certifications related to networking, cloud and server environments, specifically AWS and Azure architecture, security and operations.
  • ITIL Foundations training highly desirable.
  • Certifications CompTIA A+ / Network+ / Security+ desirable.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and system tasks.
  • Proficiency in administering Linux and Windows Server environments.
  • Highly advanced troubleshooting skills.
